How We Got Started

Blake Murray and Marty Gray are two childhood friends who now live across the country from each other. Blake lives and works in Oregon, and Marty is a professional musician and studio engineer in Michigan. During the pandemic, Blake reached out to Marty with an idea for a piece of music. Marty returned it with another iteration. The duo went back and forth, and created a song.

From this exercise in song writing, Blake realized that calling Marty was immensely educational in helping push through all the challenges of writing a song, including methods, theory, arrangement, harmonies, synths, mixing and mastering. This inspired the idea for the podcast, where the duo continue to learn and share new "tools" for the Tune Shed, which helps grow skills, ideas and appreciation for music.

Today, this podcast celebrates Blake and Marty's shared love of music, and all the different elements within it there are to appreciate. Listen along for new ideas and creative mojo, or just to listen to your music with another lens, or just to hear to goof balls chat.
